Sources for Book Donations
These organizations provide donated books to community and school libraries around the world. The organizations listed here are organized according to geographic region served.
General
- Better World Books: Better World Books is a for-profit, socially conscious business and a global online bookseller that collects and sells new and used books online, matching each purchase with a book donation.
- Book Aid International: The UK’s leading international book donation and library support charity, Book Aid International aims to give people around the world who lack access to books the opportunity to read for pleasure, study and lifelong learning.
- Books Abroad: Books Abroad is a registered charity, which aspires to support education in developing countries worldwide by redistributing carefully chosen, second-hand books.
- Books for International Goodwill (B.I.G.): B.I.G. provides services for recycling books discarded by current owners and puts them in the hands of new users.
- Darien Book Aid: Darien Book Aid is an all volunteer group of individuals interested in improving the world through literacy and education. Darien Book Aid donates hand-selected books to communities in need around the world.
- Global Book Exchange: The Global Book Exchange (GBX) sends English-language books worldwide to support the goal of universal literacy.
- International Book Project: Since 1966, International Book Project has shipped over 7 million books to 167 different countries and has developed lasting partnerships with many recipients.
- WBFN Book Project: The WBFN Book Project has sent over 3,000,000 books to children in more than 100 countries over the past 35 years.
Regional
Africa
- African Library Project: The African Library Project works with partners in Africa and North American volunteers, to create, improve, and sustain libraries in African communities.
- Books for Africa (BFA): Books For Africa collects, sorts, and ships books, computers, tablets, and library enhancement materials to every country in Africa in collaboration with worldwide donors, publishers, and African partners.
- Ethiopia Reads: Ethiopia Reads supplies books, library furniture, and critical librarian training, mentoring and networking to library staff – most of whom work in school-based environments.
Asia
- Asia Foundation’s Books for Asia: Books for Asia puts brand-new books and digital content into the hands of students, educators, and leaders in 20 countries to increase their access to valuable information.
- Books for the Barrios, Inc.: BftB aims to improve the quality of education for underprivileged youth in deprived communities around the world with our focus being on deprived, depressed regions in the Philippines.
- Bridge to Asia: Bridge to Asia provides the infrastructure to acquire the best materials and deliver them to people who can best use them.
Latin America & Caribbean
- Hands Across the Sea: Hands Across the Sea is dedicated to raising children’s literacy in the Eastern Caribbean through school and community library programs.
